My family originated from Newtown. My great-grand parents came from Ireland to construct the west dock. My Granny O'Grady was born there. Other relations are the O'Driscolls, O'Hallorans. my own father Danny O'Bronachain, came over from Cork in the 1930's. I lived over the bridge in Sandon Place but of course I am part of Newtown, as friends and family were all there. I still visit and walk among the workshops that now stand on the site or walk around the jail wall and if I close my eyes it all comes back, my childhood in that wonderful place of docks, railways and adventure. St Davids- church and school and the days of Corpus Christi.

I, my Mother, and my Grandmother were all born in Newtown. Does anyone out there remember my Great Grandmother,Honorah(Doty)O'Loughlin, nee Kane, I think that she might have been born in Barry but lived most of her life in Newtown. This must surely qualify me for a Newtown Passport. Great Site, lots of interesting stuff. I hope to visit again soon.

I have been on this site before but under a different e-mail address. Everytime I tell my mum about this site she wants to know if I find any one she was in school with. Her maiden name was Ann Ryan she was born in Fairwater(Bwlch Road) September 1941 and then moved to Roath Park(Arabella Street). She went to St David school. She has an older sister Mary, and two younger brothers Paul(went to St Illtyds) and Kevin (went to Lady Mary's). Although She didn't live in Newtown both her parents were Newtowner's Nora Tobin (of the Crighton Arms)and Patrick Ryan. Please if anyone remembers her please contact me so I can stop her nagging me

I am Secretary of the Newtown Association and I used to live at 7 Ellen Street. My mother was Mary Milton and was born and brought up in Roland Steet. My parents moved back when I was 5 years old in l954 and we lived there until l966. I have a twin brother Michael and an elder sister Regina who all have fond memories of our youth in Newtown. I have 3 younger siblings who were very young when we left Newtown - they are Kevin, Claire and Collette who remember very little of that time. My friends growing up were Anne McCarthy, Anne O'Brien, Anne Sweeney, Yvonne Ashford, Julie Burns, Kathy Davies, Kathy & Mary Crocker, Pat McCarthy and her sister Theresa, Maria Hourihan. NOW FOR THE BOYS :- Terry Hourihan, Michael Burns, David Burns, Jimmy Foley, John Murphy, Terry Yorath. Would love to hear from any of the above crowd as we are hoping to arrange a big bash in the New Year and it would be great to meet up. Best Wishes, Maria.

My name is Michael Budd, I used to live in Sandon Place, my sister Josie, sent me this Web-site, I should probibly know some members of the Committee. May be if I name dropped for a minute, let's see I went to Lady Mary School, with my cousins and friends from Newtown. My Cousins would be the O'Brians from Pendoylyn Street there was Barry, John, Neil ( lost at sea) Tommy, Joseph and Ellen and of coarse my Aunty Joanie and Uncle Joe. My friends were John Murphy Mike and David Burns, Terry Hourihan Micheal Savage, Paul Daily, Terry Yorath, Joe Crocker, Gerard McKeown, Tommy Foley, Phillip Clement's. We mustn't forget the girls, Bridie Loughlin, Ann McCarthy, Pat McCarthy ( not related ) Susan McCarthy, Tina Crocker, Mary Crocker, Liz Burn's. As you can see, although I lived on the fringes of Newtown, the people who I associated with and went to school with, have given good and lasting memories of my up-bringing. I haven't seen or heard from any of these people since I left school in 1965, most of the boy's served on the alter in St. Davids and St. Paul's, but usually the Burn's Brothers would do the early masses as they lived just down the street. I now live in Alberta, Canada and although I dont really have anything to contribute to your project, I just thought I would contact you and tell you that the job you will be doing is long overdue for the area, I wish you and the committee good luck, and if you know of the whereabouts of any of the above friends, feel free to give them my Email address, jamesbudd@shaw.ca I'd like to hear from them, it's been a long time,. I didn't mention that my uncle, Terry Gee, married Marjie Murphy, from the shop on Adams Street. Regard's Mike BUdd.

Very enjoyable website and I shall return. With Sullivans, Driscolls, Maddens and Flavins, who settled in Cardiff 1850s in my ancestry, how could I not.

Hi I am looking for any information on the McMahons (Neil, Emily, Patrick, John etc) who lived in Cardiff in 1870+. They were originally from Ireland - possibly Cork, although I have not verified this yet. If anyone thinks they could help me, please get in touch, I would be very grateful. Thank you Carole.

Hi, I was doing my genealogy and was contacted. My Ggrandparents were married in St David's Chapel in 1862. They were part of the famine. They were Matther Scott and Ann Gorman and were married in 1862. I would love to go further on this if anyone can helo. Thank you. Sincerely, John jflavey@massed.net

I have been looking at the People page and the contribution from Julia Burns was moving and fascinating. Are you the Julia Burns who was at Bishop Hannon R.C.High School in Cardiff in the late sixties/early seventies at the same time as me and my sister Lesley? Tricia Bellringer.

I would love to hear from anyone who remembers/descends from/ has knowledge of James and Ellen O'Brien whose parents came to the Newtown/Adamsdown area of Cardiff from Skibbareen at the time of the potato famine. They had seven surviving children, Mary, Philomena, Winifred, Nora, John, Elizabeth(Lily) and Joseph. Elizabeth is the last surviving sister and is now 90 and living, very actively and happily, in East Sussex. Any news/contact would be very welcome. Clare Elliott.

This is a very interesting site and a lot of hard work has gone into setting it up. (I notice that some of the pictures and links are not working with Netscape although they are fine with Internet Explorer.) Keep up the good work and good luck with the whole project. Well done.
